Nancy Grace’s Monday broadcast and a separate clarification from forensic examiner Andrew Garrett offer updates in the Nolan Xavier Wells case. Neither resolves how he died.

Nancy Grace Discusses Reported Witness Accounts

In her Monday, September 28 broadcast, Grace discussed three separate witness accounts, including one from a couple, that she said placed Nolan on Horn Island between 5 and 6 p.m. on July 4. She said some described seeing him walking in the water with a young woman.

Good News Now has not obtained the witness statements and cannot independently verify precisely what each person observed. Grace also said she reviewed video of people boarding a boat to leave the island and did not see Nolan board in the footage she watched. We have not reviewed that video.

Grace said she opposed threats against Nolan’s friends and their families. She also expressed sympathy for his mother, saying that if it were her son, she would not accept accidental drowning as an explanation. Referring to bruising and what she described as “dry lungs” and a “dry stomach,” Grace emphasized her response: “N-O.”

That is Grace’s assessment. Both Mississippi’s chief medical examiner and the independent forensic pathologist retained by Nolan’s family classified his cause and manner of death as undetermined.

Garrett’s Separate Phone Clarification

In a separate online interview, Garrett said Nolan’s phone was not unlocked again between his last confirmed use at approximately 2:17 to 2:18 p.m. and his family’s recovery of the device.

Garrett also discussed deleted or unsent Snapchat activity. He has not publicly established when, why or by whom those actions occurred. Those findings do not, by themselves, show that anyone unlocked Nolan’s phone after it left the island.

Calls for Answers Continue

Nolan’s family and legal team say they will continue seeking answers. Their search has drawn support from public figures, faith leaders, social media creators and members of the public who are also calling for clarity about what happened to Nolan.
